Cycle Level: 1

Students have a tendency to tattle throughout a typical school day. For this reason, I decided to teach my cycle one students what the difference is between telling and tattling.

I began my reading Julia Cook's "A Bad Case of Tattle Tongue," which portrays a little boys struggle of knowing when he is tattling or not. After I finished reading the book, we had a discussion and gave examples of telling and tattling.

Following our classroom discussion, we filled out two worksheets. The first had students coloring examples of tattling in yellow with purple polka dots and examples of telling in blue. The second had students respond by telling a personal tale when they were tattling or by explaining why he or she shouldn't tattle.
