Cycle Level: 1
The Complete Lesson
Introduction: (the “hook”)
I will ask students to sit on the carpet and facing the rocking chair.
I will show students the book Today I Feel Silly and do a book walk.
I will ask questions like:
What do we see on the cover? Throughout the pages?
What do we think this book is about?
I will read the book to the class, while stopping to explain difficult words.
Development: (step by step sequential procedure how the lesson will unfold)
After we finish reading the book, I will first ask students if they know what an emotion is. Then, I will define “emotions” to the class.
I will say something like:
Emotions are strong feelings that usually make us act in certain ways.
Next, I will ask students questions regarding the book.
I will say something like:
What are some emotions we saw in the book?
Have we ever felt (insert emotion stated)?
What makes us feel (insert emotion)?
After the short discussion, we will re-create our own version of “If You’re Happy and You Know It” using a template on the Smartboard. (look at appendix). After completed, we will provide students with a hard copy for their Daily 5 duotang (has songs and poems we learned in class).
Finally, I will have word cards to help students associate the emotion to the word. We will sound them out as a class and have them on the board as a reference in the future.
I will show students an emotion and then we will match the word by phonetically sounding it out.
Tasks:(any tasks that may occur? Carry over time?)
We will be completing two worksheets on emotions. They will involve team work and relating to personal experiences.
I will explain clearly how we will complete each worksheet.

Students will work with the person sitting next to them.
Students will write their name and the date at the top of the worksheet.
